An exciting role reporting to the EMEA and Bermuda Life Consulting Leadership working to shape the future of life actuarial consulting in EMEA. This role will sit within Aon’s Life Solutions Team, which is a key part of Aon’s Strategy and Technology group ("STG") and has ambitious plans for growth in the next 3–5 years. The successful applicant will also be a part of STG, a global team of over 500 specialists working across Strategy consulting, P&C technology, P&C consulting, Reinsurance, Life technology and will be provided with a unique opportunity to lead and deliver on US GAAP and US Statutory reserving and reporting advisory projects for life insurers to help our clients thrive in today’s competitive global market.
The role will be UK based but is hybrid in nature. It provides flexibility to work both virtually and from our London office. There will also be some opportunity to work in other locations and with clients at their locations as and when required/preferred.
What the day will look like
This is a senior actuarial role within Aon’s Life Solutions team, focused on US GAAP reporting, US Statutory reserving (including VM‑20, VM21 & VM-22 / principle‑based reserving), and financial reporting advisory. You will advise clients across US and international life insurance markets — including term, whole life, annuity and protection writers — on the design, implementation, review and optimisation of reserving frameworks and reporting processes. You will have a "once in a career opportunity" to help develop Aon’s Life Actuarial consulting proposition in US reporting and reserving.
- Leading and/or supporting US GAAP reserving and reporting processes, including liability valuation, assumption setting and emerging experience analysis.
- Supporting clients with US Statutory reserving requirements, including VM‑20, VM21 & VM-22 / principle‑based reserving (PBR), deterministic and stochastic reserve calculations.
- Advising on the interpretation and implementation of US GAAP (e.g. LDTI) requirements, including transition, ongoing reporting and change management.
- Performing reserve adequacy analysis, cash flow projections and sensitivity testing under various economic and insurance scenarios.
- Assessing the impact of assumption changes, model updates and regulatory developments on reserves, earnings and capital.
- Supporting clients with financial reporting processes, including controls, governance, documentation and audit readiness.
- Advising on model design, validation and enhancement for reserving systems, including Prophet, AXIS and similar actuarial platforms.
- Contributing to cross‑framework work, including alignment between US GAAP, US Stat and IFRS 17 where relevant.
- Developing and supporting other Life actuarial consulting propositions through identifying cross‑selling opportunities.
- Developing technology solutions to solve client problems.
- Developing your internal network at Aon; and being agile and flexible to ensure that the team is fully supported.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
- Proven senior manager level delivery track record within life insurance or actuarial consulting, including experience presenting to senior stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP reporting (including LDTI or equivalent frameworks) and US Statutory reserving (including VM‑20 / PBR).
- Strong understanding of US life (re)insurance products and reserving methodologies, including term, protection and annuity business.
- Experience working in a (re)insurance company or actuarial consultancy, with ability to adapt to a fast‑paced consulting environment and contribute to revenue generation.
- Proven actuarial technical expertise — acts as a thought leader within the Life Consulting team, coaching other members and setting quality standards.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, including ability to assess complex reserving and reporting issues.
- High performing self‑motivated team player that both leads and works collaboratively and is agile & willing to participate in other projects within the team.
- Ability to work under pressure, takes initiative, proactive, shows resolve and is agile.
- Ability to sponsor/shape reserving model development, automation and analytics (e.g., Python/R/SQL/Alteryx/Power BI).
