Salary range £28,031 – £29,244.00 (depending on experience; 26/27 pay review pending)

In response to the recent and ongoing large scale fieldwork programmes across the UK we are expanding our in-house post excavation services. We are seeking candidates with skills in post-excavation finds and sample processing in this growing department and to be part of the vibrant post excavation team shaping the future direction of our environmental services in a range of exciting and rewarding programmes.

This is an excellent opportunity to further your career in archaeological post-excavation as a Project Supervisor. Based in our Milton Keynes Office, you will work with the AOC post-excavation team and archaeological Project Managers across our UK network of offices. You may be required to travel to locations across the UK and to stay overnight on occasion.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of Post-Excavation Technicians/Site Assistants in the post excavation processing team, under the direction of the Post-Excavation Project Manager. Your role will require adherence to in house and CIfA standards for post-excavation. You will ensure compliance with project budgets and timescales for project deliverables for the processing programmes, with a focus on quality assurance.

You will have a willingness to take on varied duties in line with our post-excavation programmes. Core tasks will include:

  • Creation of project specific finds and environmental inventories
  • Document scanning and record checking
  • Finds packing (in accordance with museum guidelines and standards)
  • Finds tracking to and from specialists and repositories
  • Specialist liaison
  • Assisting in the preparation of archives
  • Maintenance and care of processing areas and equipment
  • Sample processing of bulk sediment samples

  • Degree level qualification/s in a relevant heritage discipline
  • Interest and foundation skills in a post excavation specialism (environment or artefact).
  • Demonstrable experience in finds and sample processing.
  • Demonstrable experience of supervising field or post excavation team members.
  • Knowledge in the archaeology of England.
  • Good people skills with the ability to uplift and inspire teams.
  • Drive, initiative, positivity and a methodical working approach.
  • Knowledge in the archaeology of Britain.
  • Experience of working in a commercial heritage environment.
  • CIfA membership.
  • Full and current driving licence entitling you to drive in the UK.

Salary under constant review and always current with CIFA recommendations; appointments will be made based on demonstrated ability and previous experience.
