Full-time position: 40 hours per week / £14.26 per hour + £50 per sleep-in payment

Job Purpose

Supports the effective delivery of education, care, and independence programmes for learners and young people by supervising support staff, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the implementation of individual programmes, supporting teaching, social, and independence activities.
  • Manage the well-being and behaviour of children and young people, including handling sensitive pastoral situations and reporting significant issues.
  • Support colleagues in maintaining professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and external agencies.
  • Act as a positive role model, providing supervision and guidance to team members.
  • Contribute to the development of local procedures and ensure team compliance with policies and standards.
  • Apply new techniques within the registered home.
  • Ensure young people receive value for money from services.

Knowledge / Education / Skills

  • QCF Level 3 Diploma in relevant care/children & young people related area or equivalent qualification.

Experience

  • Previous experience supporting the educational and social development of children or young people with special needs.

Responsibility

No direct line management but indirect leadership influence in the area of expertise. Support staff on shifts and contribute to education and care plan delivery. Handle day-to-day issues and incidents, escalate complex matters to senior management.

Budgets & Equipment

Share responsibility for equipment care, security, and adherence to budget guidelines. Manage petty cash, allowances, and medication administration as per policies.

Information

Maintain confidentiality, security, and accuracy of records and data, ensuring compliance with organizational and statutory requirements.

Communication & Interaction

Engage in regular communication involving judgment, including providing personal support, guidance, and pastoral care. Use coaching, observational, and listening skills to support development.

Safeguarding

All staff are responsible for safeguarding vulnerable individuals. Attend safeguarding training, understand local procedures, and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
