We are looking for an inspiring and forward-thinking Assistant Head of Department to help lead our Multi-Skills & Trowel Trades provision across both our Cambridge and Huntingdon sites. Our Construction & Building Services department plays a vital role in preparing the next generation of skilled tradespeople. As Assistant Head of Department, you’ll work closely with the Head of Department to shape the curriculum, support staff, and ensure every learner receives an outstanding experience. You’ll help lead and develop the following curriculum areas:

  • Construction Multi-Skills
  • Property Maintenance Operations
  • Bricklaying

With delivery across both sites, you’ll enjoy a varied, hands-on leadership role with the flexibility to work across two thriving learning environments.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking someone who brings both expertise and energy to the role. You’ll need:

  • Extensive teaching experience within Further Education
  • Strong understanding of the FE sector and relevant industry knowledge
  • Up-to-date Health & Safety awareness
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
  • A recognised teaching qualification (DET, DTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE)
  • A background in construction is not essential.

What matters most is your deep understanding of FE teaching, learning and assessment, your commitment to quality, and your proven ability to lead and develop teams effectively.

Essential Criteria

  • Must hold Level 5 or above teaching qualification such as DET, DTLLS or Cert Ed / PGCE
  • Must hold or working towards IQA Award or equivalent.
  • Extensive relevant experience working in an education/training provider.
  • Recent teaching experience in a further education setting
  • Evidence of professional updating & development
