We are currently recruiting for a Global Loans Associate to join our Global Loans and Real Estate Finance group in London.
Department purpose
A&O Shearman is consistently ranked as the number 1 legal adviser for syndicated loans in EMEA for both borrowers and lenders by Refinitiv/Bloomberg. Our global loans practice is widely recognised as the market leader for investment grade corporate lending, acquisition finance and margin lending. We advise a diverse spectrum of lenders and borrowers on their financings, including banks, corporates, sovereigns, alternative credit providers, REITs and funds, and are able to offer our clients exceptional market knowledge, built from working on more big-ticket, cross-border deals than any of our competitors. We regularly advise on “first of their kind” transactions, developing concepts, structures and documentation that lead the way for the rest of the market.

Role & responsibilities
- Drafting, reviewing, negotiating and amending legal documentation
- Strategically advising clients in meetings, on the phone and in writing
- Managing client expectations and project delivery appropriately and efficiently
- Business development – development of personal plan, assistance with and implementation of business development plan
- Legal research
- Supervision of junior team members and managing other transaction parties including specialist and local teams
Key requirements
- Qualified lawyer (2-4 years PQE)
- Strong technical knowledge of the legal framework surrounding general financing and corporate lending transactions, including LMA documentation
- Intellectual curiosity and versatility
- Self-starter with the desire and ability to continuously acquire, build upon and share knowledge
- Detail-focused and self-motivated approach
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Excellent client relationship skills
- Sound experience of operating at associate level within a complex international organisation
- Strong commercial/business acumen with the ability to deliver creative and pragmatic solutions and advice
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface at all levels and particularly to win the respect of the partner and fee-earner community, building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
- Collaborative team player with the ability to develop and work in a fast-paced, intellectually rigorous environment
- A person of sound judgment, able to establish a high level of credibility
