At AO Recycling, we are growing our business in data gathering and analysis, delivering IT projects from conception to execution, and driving ongoing operational improvements. We are seeking a versatile and dynamic IT Generalist to join our team and help make AO Recycling’s proposition and platform the best in the UK. This role involves collaborating with business functions across the group and leveraging the wider AO family in Telford and at our Headquarters in Bolton.
The ideal candidate will have a few years of experience in IT project delivery and a proactive mindset for adopting innovative technology solutions. Fluency in SQL and SQL Reporting Services is essential for database management, report creation, and data-driven decision-making. A basic understanding of networking and the ability to diagnose common networking issues are desirable. You will work closely with third-party developers and Group IT functions to deliver solutions aligned with business needs.
The role requires the ability to work independently and proactively, managing tasks and projects with minimal supervision while delivering high-quality solutions. There are excellent opportunities for growth, with potential progression into a Project Manager or Delivery Lead role in the future. Here’s What You Can Expect To Be Doing
- Project Delivery: Lead and manage IT projects, ensuring timely and successful delivery in alignment with business objectives. Include planning, execution, and post-implementation support.
- Requirements Gathering: Collaborate with stakeholders to gather, analyse, and document business requirements; ensure technical specifications are communicated to development teams.
- SQL and Reporting: Develop, maintain, and optimise SQL queries; design and deliver reports using SQL Reporting Services to provide actionable insights and data visualisation for stakeholders.
- Problem Solving: Identify technical challenges and provide innovative solutions; offer troubleshooting and support across the IT ecosystem.
- Networking Issues Diagnosis: Use basic networking knowledge to diagnose and resolve common connectivity and performance issues.
- Collaboration with Third-Party Developers: Work with external developers and vendors to implement and integrate IT solutions, coordinating with internal teams.
- Collaboration with Group IT Functions: Align with corporate IT standards, security policies, and best practices; contribute to global initiatives ensuring scalable solutions.
- Advocacy for New Technology: Stay up to date with emerging technologies and assist in integrating tools that drive efficiency and business performance.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Provide technical guidance and recommendations across departments to align IT initiatives with business needs.
- Support and Maintenance: Maintain, upgrade, and provide ongoing support for IT systems, ensuring optimal performance.
- Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation, test scripts, UAT processes, and acceptance criteria.
A Few Things About You
- Degree (minimum 2:1) in computer science
- Relevant 3-4 years of IT experience
- Experience in IT project management and delivery
- Experience in requirements gathering, business analysis, and translating business needs into technical solutions; strong communication skills for non-technical stakeholders
- Power Apps and Power Automate knowledge would be beneficial but not mandatory
- Familiarity with SQL and SQL Reporting Services for report development, maintenance, and optimisation
- Basic networking knowledge to diagnose common networking issues
- Experience working with internal and external developers/vendors to implement IT solutions aligned with corporate standards
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a solutions-oriented approach
- Experience working in cross-functional teams and managing multiple stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
