Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced General Manager to lead the UK business and drive operational excellence, organizational growth, and successful delivery of strategic objectives.

Reporting directly to the COO, the General Manager will oversee the performance of the UK organization across engineering operations, manufacturing readiness, project delivery, installations, customer support, financial performance, and team leadership.

This role requires a proven business leader with experience in advanced manufacturing or other highly technical, high-reliability environments, capable of working effectively with scientists, engineers, customers, partners, and government stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Leadership
  • Lead UK operations and ensure alignment with corporate strategy.
  • Execute strategic initiatives and business plans.
  • Support market growth, partnerships, and business development activities.
  • Represent the company with customers, partners, suppliers, regulators, and government stakeholders.
  • Operations & Program Delivery
  • Oversee engineering, manufacturing readiness, installations, commissioning, and customer support.
  • Establish operational goals, KPIs, and accountability frameworks.
  • Ensure successful delivery of projects to schedule, budget, and customer requirements.
  • Manage risks, resolve operational issues, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Financial Management
  • Own operational budget and UK P&L performance.
  • Develop forecasts, operating plans, and resource strategies.
  • Monitor financial performance and support reporting, audits, and governance requirements.
  • Manufacturing & Supply Chain
  • Support production planning and operational readiness activities.
  • Oversee supplier and subcontractor performance.
  • Ensure quality, delivery, and operational standards are achieved.
  • Facilitate capability transfer and collaboration between Canadian and UK operations.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Relationships
  • Build and maintain executive-level customer relationships.
  • Support commercial discussions and contract negotiations.
  • Act as the senior escalation point for critical customer issues.
  • Strengthen relationships with strategic partners and research institutions.
  • People Leadership
  • Lead and develop multidisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and business professionals.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and performance.
  • Support recruitment, succession planning, and professional development initiatives.
  • Governance & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with UK regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
  • Oversee risk management, business continuity, quality, health & safety, and security requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering (required).
  • Advanced degree or MBA considered an asset.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience, including P&L responsibility.
  • Experience in aerospace or another high-precision, high-reliability industry such as defence, semiconductors, scientific instrumentation, or medical devices.
  • Experience leading scientists, engineers, and multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Demonstrated success delivering complex programs and scaling operations.
  • Strong business, financial, and operational management capabilities.
  • Experience working with customers, suppliers, government-funded programs, and executive stakeholders.
  • Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom and obtain security clearances where required.
