We’re hiring! 👋
Antony Patrick Associates (APA) are looking for a Graduate / Intermediate Building Surveyor to join our growing team in Waterloo, London (SE1).
We’re a dynamic, forward-thinking building consultancy specialising in tailor-made services for the property sector. With over 25 years’ experience in the construction industry, we combine strong technical expertise with a real focus on understanding and meeting the unique needs of our clients.
Based in Waterloo, we primarily serve the residential sector across London and the Home Counties. We pride ourselves on clear communication, quality advice and professionalism, backed by robust internal quality assurance procedures.
The Role – What your day-to-day will look like
You’ll support senior surveyors and quickly take ownership of your own instructions. A typical week could include:
- Visiting sites to carry out building surveys, inspections and defect diagnosis
- Completing desktop research and reviewing existing information on buildings and sites
- Preparing clear, structured reports setting out the condition of properties and recommended actions
- Acting as Contract Administrator on fit-out and refurbishment projects (typically up to c. £3.5m)
- Assisting with Licences for Alterations, Party Wall matters and Reinstatement Cost Assessments
- Assisting with the preparation of Planning / Listed Building Applications
- Supporting insurance reinstatement projects, section 20 works and planned maintenance works
- Liaising with other stakeholders to assist with projects
- Helping to prepare specifications, tender documents, drawings and cost estimates
- Keeping project records up to date and helping to coordinate portfolio instructions
You’ll get real client exposure and responsibility from day one, with support as you grow.
APC & Professional Development – How we’ll support you
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is working towards their RICS chartership. You’ll get:
- A structured RICS APC training programme with formal enrolment and induction
- A dedicated APC Supervisor and regular review sessions
- Access to an external APC consultant for regular reviews, mock interviews and feedback
- CPD days, seminars and support to engage with bodies such as FPWS, TPI and RICS
- Day-to-day guidance from experienced colleagues, with the chance to learn directly from senior and Chartered surveyors
About You – Required Skills, Experience & Behaviours
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has a RICS-accredited Building Surveying degree (or equivalent)
- Is competent and confident with Word and Excel and comfortable writing clear, well-structured reports
- Communicates clearly and professionally, both in person and in writing
- Is a good team player but also able to work independently and take ownership of tasks
- Is driven, ambitious and proactive about their own development
- Has strong attention to detail and good time management skills and able to think for themselves
- Is organised, willing to learn and committed to building a career in private practice and achieving RICS Chartered status
Some experience (placements, internships) and AutoCAD skills are a bonus, but not essential.
A full UK driving licence and access to a car is desirable, as some sites are less accessible by public transport, and you should be willing to travel to sites across London and the Home Counties.
What you’ll get from us
In return, you’ll join a friendly, close-knit team where you’re treated as a key part of the business, not a number. You can expect:
- Close support from your line manager and the wider team
- Regular feedback and opportunities to broaden your experience
- Early responsibility, with the confidence that there’s always someone to ask
- Exposure to a wide variety of residential and mixed-use projects
Package
- Salary: circa £28,500 – £45,000 (gross) depending on experience
- Bonus: discretionary, linked to company performance
- Holiday: 28 days including public holidays
- Benefits: private health insurance, pension and Bike2Work scheme (post-probation)
