The successful applicant will handle a caseload of pre‑ and post‑litigated claims primarily under Sections 9a and 11 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985. Focus will be on all aspects of housing disrepair claims, from inception to conclusion, in compliance with the Pre Action Protocol for Housing Conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Run a caseload of pre‑ and post‑litigation housing conditions claims on behalf of tenants
- Comply with the Pre Action Protocol for Housing Disrepair Claims
- Apply knowledge of relevant legislation, such as the Landlord & Tenant Act
- Draft Letters of Claim
- Collate special damages
- Review housing records to assess liability
- Review surveyor’s reports – claimant and defendant
- Negotiate and settle disputes
- Conduct mediation
- Liaise with counsel
- Issue court proceedings
- Use Proclaim (claims management software) competently and effectively, ensuring business process and policy are adhered to
- Communicate effectively with clients
- Liaise with and build positive, professional relationships across the business
- Carry out other duties as required to assist in the smooth running of the business
Qualifications
- Fully qualified Solicitor
- Housing Disrepair experience essential; significant (10+ years) contentious civil litigation experience also considered
- Able to bill work at Grade B or above
- Proclaim case‑management system experience required
- Demonstrable experience working at pace, managing competing priorities within one’s caseload
- Experience litigating own matters
- Highly organised and self‑motivated
- IT literate
Location & Working Hours
- Manchester, M2 2EE or Liverpool L2 2QP – Hybrid working available
- Full time, permanent – flexible start and finish times
- £45,000 plus dependent on experience + Bonus; annual salary review in November each year
