The role:
The successful applicant will handle a caseload of pre and post-litigated breach of agreement cases brought following agreements reached in Housing Conditions claims.
Key tasks (not an exhaustive list):
- Run a caseload of pre- and post-litigation breach of agreement cases on behalf of tenants
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, such as the Landlord Tenant Act, CPR Part 8 procedure
- Draft Applications for breach of agreement and specific performance
- Draft Part 8 proceedings for breach of agreement
- Review surveyor’s reports – Claimant and Defendant
- Negotiation and settlement
- General damages review
- Liaise with Counsel
- Prepare Court Bundles and Brief to Counsel
- Familiar with access and decant issues
- Use Proclaim (claims management software) competently and effectively, ensuring that business process and policy is adhered to
- Communicate effectively with clients
- Liaise with and build positive and professional relationships across the business
- Carry out other duties, as and when required, to assist in the smooth running of the business
The successful applicant:
Our team structure means that we can support applicants with varying degrees of prior experience and have successfully supported several staff who have re-trained from fast paced litigation backgrounds such as personal injury.
Successful candidates will be confident communicators with a high level of written and verbal skills and good attention to detail. You must be well organised and able to work in a busy environment with the ability to prioritise tasks and work to tight timescales.
Candidates must be a fully qualified Solicitor.
Experience:
- Housing Disrepair Breach experience preferred but not essential
- Able to bill work at Grade C or above
- Case Management System (Proclaim is used) experience is a must to be able to handle volume litigation
- Demonstrable experience of being able to work at pace, with ability to manage competing priorities within own caseload
- Have experience of litigating own matters
- Highly organised and self-motivated
- IT literate
