One of our private clients is seeking an experienced Gardener to care for their large private residence in London (W8), maintaining the garden and grounds to an exceptional standard. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled horticultural professional to take responsibility for the year-round care and presentation of a beautifully designed private garden, including formal planting, lawns, specimen trees, and hard landscaping. The role requires a hands-on, detail-oriented gardener with strong plant knowledge and the ability to maintain high-end private grounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Horticulture & Plant Care
- Expert pruning of shrubs, climbers, and herbaceous planting.
- Routine garden maintenance including weeding, deadheading, and seasonal feeding.
- Maintain formal topiary to a high standard.
- Monitor plant health and identify pests or diseases, carrying out appropriate treatments when required.
- Assist with soil and foliage sampling to monitor nutrient levels and overall plant health.
- Maintain mulch levels throughout planting beds to support soil health and moisture retention.
- Lawn & Turf Management
- Weekly mowing and edging during the growing season.
- Seasonal lawn care including scarification and aeration.
- Application of specialist lawn feeds and treatments.
- Tree Care
- Maintenance pruning and shaping of trees including Limes, Magnolias, Amelanchier, Birch, and Beech.
- Removal of deadwood and maintaining appropriate clearance from the residence.
- Hard Landscaping & Garden Infrastructure
- Maintain all paths, patios, and driveway areas (approx. 1100m²), including debris removal.
- Occasional pressure washing of stone surfaces as required.
- Routine cleaning and maintenance of water features.
- Monitoring and servicing of irrigation systems during the active season.
- Waste Management
- Management of green waste through on-site composting.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience working within high-end private gardens, estates, or similar environments.
- Strong horticultural knowledge and understanding of UK planting conditions.
- Experience operating horticultural equipment such as blowers, jet washers, and irrigation systems.
- Physically fit and comfortable maintaining large landscaped gardens.
- Professional, discreet, and capable of working within a private residence environment.
Working Schedule
This is a full-time, year-round position, with peak activity between April and September.
