Overview

Healthcare Support Worker – Ridgeway Ward

Ridgeway ward is an Elective Orthopaedic Ward with a dedicated admissions area and Day Case Bay. The primary focus is on gold standard care to aide our enhanced recovery with a focus on nurse led discharge.

Responsibilities

  • To support patients in regaining and maintaining their independence, to include assistance with personal care, toileting, assistance with diet and fluids, encouraging and assisting with mobility.
  • To contribute to the cleanliness and tidiness of the patient environment to include medical equipment.
  • To undertake delegated clinical care duties for patients who may have undergone orthopaedic procedures.
  • To support the trained nurses in the delivery of care and assessments of patients; this will include the monitoring of vital signs and other basic tests.

Requirements

Essential

  • Education Qualifications & Training: Evidence of Secondary Education including English and Maths up to Level 2 or equivalent
  • Knowledge & Experience: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively (to understand and be understood); Ability to follow clear instruction and feed back to senior staff; Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative; Working toward competency based work book, or equivalent level 3
  • Skills & Abilities: Tactful and polite; Ability to communicate with all levels of staff; Ability to exchange factual information accurately; Ability to deal with sensitive situations; Patient and calm; Kind and compassionate; Open and approachable; Ability to work both independently and as part of a team; Motivated; Positive and flexible approach; Understands limits of own responsibility; Willingness to learn new skills; Able to speak English as necessary to undertake role

Desirable

  • Understanding of basic physiology e.g. normal vital signs, fluid balance, nutritional requirements etc.
  • Level 3 vocational qualification in health and social care (or willing to complete) or equivalent relevant experience.
  • IT literate
