The Theatre Senior Lead within Theatre Services will work collaboratively with fellow leads to ensure the effective operational management of designated areas within the Dorset County Hospital operating theatre service. This will involve the appropriate deployment, delegation, coordination, and supervision of staff across all grades. The post-holder will provide leadership and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centred care. Acting as a resource for other staff, they will utilise specialist knowledge and skills throughout the department.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to manage the department effectively.
  • Support and lead registered practitioners, nurses, and support staff within Theatre Services.
  • Uphold the philosophy, policies, and standards of care in line with Trust values, while maintaining staff morale.
  • Coordinate patient flow within the theatre environment, monitor list efficiency, and maximise theatre utilisation.

Essential Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

  • Appropriate Professional Registration with a recognised healthcare body.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
  • Recognised teaching qualification.
  • Leadership or management qualification/experience or willingness to work towards.
  • Knowledge of national initiatives and KPIs.
  • Significant post-registration experience with a minimum of 3 years in Operating Theatres, at Band 6 level.
  • Understanding of professional healthcare issues and a commitment to high-quality patient-centred care.
  • Experience of resource management including staff and budget management.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance, PSIRF methodology and managing complaints.
  • Ability to act as a proficient healthcare practitioner and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, patients and visitors.
  • Ability to manage patient flow and escalate as required in accordance with departmental organisation.
  • Ability to prioritise and organise own workload and the workload of others.
  • Demonstrates application of evidence-based practice, critical appraisal skills and knowledge of professional issues.

  • Evidence of an area of special interest.
