Applications are invited for a motivated and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join the Dorset Stroke & Neuro Services team. The post is full time (37.5 hours per week) and involves specialist dysphagia and communication intervention for patients post stroke. Applications from candidates already at a B6 level or those with stroke experience at B5 seeking a B5 developing role may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist Speech and Language assessment and rehabilitation for patients on the Acute Stroke Unit at Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester and the Yeatman Hospital in Sherborne, ensuring rehabilitation continues across the stroke pathway.
  • Develop specialist skills in the assessment and management of swallowing and communication difficulties for patients post stroke; work within both an acute and rehabilitation setting.
  • Join an established Stroke Therapy Team and contribute to projects including service development and evaluation, internal and external training, audit and research review.
  • Supervise at least one team member and support staff wellbeing and career progression through supervision, appraisal, and training.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Essential: degree in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Specialist Dysphagia qualification
  • Clinical educator's certificate
  • Member of RCSLT
  • HCPC registration
  • Membership of relevant CEN
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice in Speech & Language Therapy
  • Understanding of rehabilitation with dysphagia and communication
  • Ability to work as part of a specialised MDT and communicate effectively within it
  • Ability to convey complex concepts in understandable language to patients, carers and staff
  • Understand the role of SLT in assessing mental capacity
  • Excellent time management; ability to organise, prioritise and delegate
  • Ability to self-direct learning and maintain a CPD portfolio
  • Full driving licence and access to own car
