Job Summary
We are recruiting a Decontamination Services Assistant to join our small friendly team. You will work in the Sterile Services Department and the Endoscopy Decontamination Department with full training provided. You are expected to follow clear working instructions to meet the standards required to deliver high quality care. You should be able to work as part of a team, under pressure, in a constantly changing production environment.
Your daily duties will be on a rota basis and include early and late shifts (0630‑2200 hrs) as well as weekends and bank holidays (0900‑1700 hrs).
Main duties of the job
- Provide decontamination services to all departments within Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Community Hospitals, including external customers.
- In the Sterile Services Department, wash, clean, prepare and sterilise reusable surgical instruments.
- In the Endoscopy Decontamination Department, wash, clean and process flexible endoscopes.
- Play a pivotal role in providing sterile reusable equipment for our patients.
- Support patient safety as part of a small, friendly team.

Essential Qualifications
- Minimum 5 x GCE ‘O’ level grade C or above or equivalent
Essential Skills & Competencies
- Understanding the importance of following standard Working Instructions
- Good communication skills and ability to demonstrate good customer service
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow clear instructions
- Understanding the importance of confidentiality
Desirable
- Able to demonstrate foundation IT skills
- Flexible working approach, able to work within the required shift patterns of the department
- Significant and recent experience working in a production and/or customer services setting
- Understanding of the function of the department
