The Anti-Racism Observatory for Scotland (AROS) represents a major advance in Scotland’s mission to tackle systemic racism. Funded by the Scottish Government and hosted by Strathclyde University, AROS collaborates with the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights (CRER), bringing anti-racism expertise and insight. Community-led with strong partnerships, AROS aims to provide comprehensive data and a powerful evidence base to help government and public sector bodies address racism in Scotland.
The Observatory will focus on three main workstreams: (1) gathering quantitative and qualitative data on ethnic and racial inequalities, including epidemiological, cultural, historical, socio-political, and economic factors; (2) creating an interactive digital repository of evidence on racism in Scotland; and (3) facilitating dialogue between the Scottish Government and stakeholders on racial experiences. These will be underpinned by a principle of co-production, led by those most affected by AROS’s work.
The new CEO / Co-CEOs will have the opportunity to establish and lead a national anti-racism accountability organisation. Candidates should possess a mix of advocacy, strategy, organizational, and leadership skills, with a deep commitment to anti-racist principles, co-production, and community engagement. Experience from community organizing, campaigning, policy, academia, or other sectors is welcomed, as long as it demonstrates integrity, knowledge, and determination.
