Electronic/Embedded Software Engineer
About the Role
Anthrotek is a fast-growing start-up specialising in high-fidelity silicone solutions. Our products include artificial skin, faces, organs and body parts, serving fields from medical simulation to robotics and the cinematic special effects industry. We blend advanced material science (silicone, soft materials) with artistic precision and the latest 3D modelling, AI and 3D printing technology.
We are currently seeking a talented and motivated multidisciplinary electronic/embedded software engineer to join our dynamic team on an 8-month fixed-term contract. The embedded/electronic engineer will lead the selection and integration of commercially-available force sensors in our silicone medical simulation products. These sensors will be essential for measuring the force applied by medical devices or surgeons during procedures, thus enhancing training experiences for medical professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & implement suitable solutions for sensor-driven embedded systems (from breadboard prototyping to PCB design and software implementation)
- Screen appropriate electronic sensor solutions from commercial sources
- Create and implement electronic circuits for sensor functionality
- Design and develop embedded software for sensor integration
- Work with communication protocols to ensure seamless data transmission
Required Skills
- At least 1–2 years industrial experience in embedded software development
- Solid knowledge of electronics & experience with electronic design principles
- Experience with sensor technologies integration
- PCB design & routing software (KiCad, Altium, Cadence or equivalent)
- Familiarity with communication protocols (SPI, I2C, USB)
- Low-level C programming language
- Understanding of code testing (TDD, BDD, unit test or equivalent)
- Experience with documentation
- Authorised to work in the United Kingdom
- Experience in building simple user interfaces (Python, C++)
- Background in force sensing technology
- GIT or other version control systems
- JIRA or similar project management tools
What We Offer
- Salary: £30,000–£45,000 per year (full-time basis, depending on experience)
- Employee Equity Scheme
- Work with PhDs in materials science
- Access to 350m² R&D facility
- Collaborative culture (medical simulation to SFX)
About the Role
AnthroTek is seeking a versatile Medical Simulation Product Designer who sits at the intersection of product design, 3D modelling, user experience, and documentation. This role is for someone who enjoys making, iterating, testing, and improving physical products — not just designing them on screen.
You will play a key role throughout the product lifecycle: from understanding user needs and defining requirements, to shaping product usability, creating supporting documentation, and leading 3D design and modelling work. You'll work closely with the founders and technical & workshop teams to transform early concepts into manufacturable & commercialisable physical products.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design of medical simulation models including skin systems, injection pads, medical phantoms, and anatomical replicas
- As a 3D modelling expert, support the 3D design of anatomical models, 3D modelling of moulds for casting, product concepts, and iterations
- Define and maintain product requirements based on market needs, internal constraints, usability, ergonomics, and user experience
- Write and design user manuals, instruction guides, and technical documentation
- Actively seek knowledge through user interactions to improve existing products and inform new ones
- Lead production aspects related to product packaging and shipping
Required Skills
- Practical understanding of physical product development (not purely digital design)
- Solid experience with 3D modelling, surface modelling, sculpting, texture work — ideally with Blender or equivalent mesh-based software
- Proven experience in documentation writing (user manuals, instructions, technical guides)
- Experience with Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite for user manuals and visual documentation
- Comfortable interacting with customers
- Attention to detail in both visual and written outputs
- Authorised to work in the United Kingdom
Beneficial Skills
- Experience in the medical/anatomical simulation industry
- Academic knowledge of human anatomy (skin layers, fascia, organs)
- Experience with product manufacturing or technical environments
What This Role Is (and Isn't)
- Hands-on
- Creative but practical
- Focused on execution and iteration
This role is NOT:
- A people-management role
- A purely conceptual or artistic design role
We celebrate diversity and welcome applicants of all backgrounds. AnthroTek is an equal-opportunity employer building a team as varied as the humans our products emulate.
We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone can do their best work, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, or background.
