About the Role

Anthropic is seeking a Program Manager to grow our AI for Science Program. You will build and manage partnerships with lab partners worldwide. This program is the primary mechanism for Anthropic’s life sciences efforts to collaborate with labs that have new ideas for how Claude can contribute to scientific domains. This foundational role shapes our strategy for deploying Claude for Life Sciences across research areas including biomedical sciences, chemistry, and materials science. You will work with interdisciplinary partners from academia and early-stage companies. Your goal is to develop relationships and goal-directed partnerships that demonstrate or expand Claude’s capabilities in the sciences, focusing on individual projects and building communities of practice among scientists with shared interests or objectives. The right candidate combines deep relationships in the sciences with entrepreneurial and experimental drive to build something new at the frontier of AI.

About Beneficial Deployments

Beneficial Deployments ensures AI reaches and benefits communities that need it most. We partner with nonprofits, foundations, and mission-driven organizations to deploy Claude in education, global health, economic mobility, and life sciences. We prioritise making AI more accessible and raising the floor of what is possible, while expanding AI use to new tasks that raise the ceiling of potential.

Responsibilities

  • Own and execute Anthropic's AI for Science API credit strategy, managing partnerships with academic labs, small start-ups, and potentially foundations.
  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard new partners via API credit application calls and targeted relationship building.
  • Serve as the primary relationship owner for AI for Science, coordinating with Applied AI, product, and GTM teams to deliver impact.
  • Compile regular reports and learnings from the AI for Science ecosystem to inform research and GTM priorities.
  • Manage timelines, resource requirements, and regular reporting for the AI for Science program.
  • Work closely with partners to understand technical and operational needs and translate them into deployment plans.
  • Engage in early technical prototyping and testing to learn with partners and unblock progress.
  • Set a research agenda for understanding AI's impact on labs across domains.
  • Identify opportunities to create public goods — open-source tools, datasets, and research — that benefit the broader ecosystem.
  • Represent Anthropic at global scientific conferences and convenings.
  • Help shape team processes and culture as Life Science work scales.

You Might Be a Good Fit If You Have

  • 7+ years of experience in life sciences research with exposure to how new technologies accelerate progress.
  • 3+ years of experience managing external partnerships, grants, or multi-stakeholder initiatives.
  • Deep relationships and credibility in life sciences with familiarity with key players at universities, research institutes, and tools companies.
  • Technical fluency to engage on AI concepts, understand LLM capabilities and limitations, and partner with technical teams.
  • Analytical mindset with experience using data to inform strategy and measure impact.
  • Experience building communities of practice where scientists from multiple domains converge on shared exploration of new technologies.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset: built programs or organizations from scratch, likely at startups or founding roles.
  • Drive to maximise impact for underserved communities.
  • High agency and comfort with ambiguity; thrive while building the plane as you fly it.
  • Strong prioritisation skills and ability to manage a high volume of partnerships.
  • Willingness to travel for occasional partner visits and conferences.

Strong Candidates May Also Have

  • Experience working with philanthropic foundations on science funding.
  • Background at biotech companies, academic research institutions, or in roles at the intersection of science and technology product.
  • Background in wet lab research with ability to communicate scientifically.

Logistics

  • Education requirements: At least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, staff are expected to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time; some roles may require more time in offices.
  • Visa sponsorship: We sponsor visas where possible and will make reasonable efforts to assist with visa processes if an offer is extended.

We encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates meet every qualification. We value diverse perspectives and encourage applicants from underrepresented groups to apply. We believe AI has social and ethical implications, which makes representation important.
