Overview: The Anthro joint venture between Egis and VVB Engineering will provide comprehensive turn-key services for London’s state-of-the-art HS2 gateway station at Old Oak Common. We have been awarded a multi-year contract to deliver MEPHFC (Mechanical, Electrical Public Health, Fire and Communications) systems works.

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and motivated Principal Electrical Engineer to join the Egis Transport Solutions MEPHFC Design Team. The ideal candidate will have experience in rail station electrical services design and coordination. As Principal Electrical Engineer you will be a senior member of the team and will be required to support the Associate Director, who leads the MEPHFC team. You will lead and manage other engineers and be responsible for the delivery of electrical designs. We are looking for someone who’s dedicated, diligent, and driven, and will take this challenge head on, being an important part of a dynamic team with big ambitions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and support a team of electrical engineers, ensuring effective allocation of workload and time management.
  • Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers, helping to build the team’s technical capability.
  • Foster a “get it right first time” culture focused on quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Represent the electrical discipline in client and project meetings, promoting collaborative working relationships.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to clients, internal teams, and project stakeholders (technical and non-technical).
  • Lead the full lifecycle of electrical design, from feasibility through to detailed design, construction support, and As-Built documentation.
  • Oversee the production of design markups, drawings, specifications, and schedules, ensuring alignment with standards, client requirements, and industry best practice.
  • Undertake and approve detailed engineering calculations and electrical system design (e.g., lighting, LV, containment, transformer sizing, small power, schematics).
  • Carry out technical reviews and ensure designs comply with statutory, regulatory, and project-specific requirements.
  • Manage and review specialist supplier and subcontractor technical submissions for compliance and coordination.
  • Support testing, commissioning, and certification processes where required.
  • Lead design assurance activities, including structured design reviews and technical governance processes.
  • Act as a key participant in coordination sessions, technical workshops, and multidisciplinary design interfaces.
  • Ensure effective integration of electrical systems within a BIM-driven environment.
  • Produce clear progress reports and communicate project status, risks, and issues effectively.

Candidate Profile:

Essential:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Member of an engineering institute and professionally registered with the Engineering Council.
  • Sufficient experience in the railway industry.
  • Experience in managing works in accordance with NR-L2-RSE-02009, Engineering Management of Projects.
  • Experience in rail station electrical services design and coordination.
  • Excellent understanding of electrical systems from a technical, design, installation, buildability, and maintenance perspective.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of British Standards and Regulations, and rail standards such as Network Rail, HS2, and TfL.
  • Knowledge of engineering software tools including Trimble/Amtech Pro Design, Dialux or Relux.
  • Ability to deliver work to a programme and budget.
  • Knowledge of procurement activities and lead times.
  • Excellent leadership skills and mentoring experience.
  • Ability to train and upskill team members.
  • Expert communication, organisation, and collaboration abilities.
  • Proficient at leading meetings and presenting to clients, stakeholders, colleagues, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Experience of supporting the organisation to build and grow.
  • Committed to continuous professional development, staying updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in rail design and engineering.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of design stages and requirements e.g. RIBA, BSRIA, GRIP.
  • Experience of working in an engineering production environment.
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary design and coordination, and the delivery of projects to a high quality, throughout all design stages.
  • Experience of working with 3D models in a BIM environment.
  • Experience of producing technical notes, reports, specifications, drawings, schedules and calculations.
  • Ability to find solutions to engineering problems.
  • Proven capability in managing design interfaces and integration processes.
  • Experience of design assurance requirements & processes.
  • Good understanding of relevant legislation such as CDM and CSM.
  • Good knowledge of NEC contracts and project communications.
  • Understanding of project scopes, requirements, works information, and excellent commercial awareness.
