Do you want to use your governance expertise to support ambitious local authorities on high-impact projects? We are looking for a candidate in either our Birmingham or Manchester office to join our Local Government and Planning team as an Associate, advising monitoring officers and in-house legal teams on complex governance and constitutional matters. You will work with a friendly, collaborative and values-driven team, led by nationally recognised governance specialists, on some of the most interesting and impactful matters in the sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising on constitutions, delegations and governance frameworks.
- Supporting and/or conducting investigations and standards matters.
- Advising on member/officer conduct, decision-making and committee governance.
- Supporting clients through governance change, including LGR and structural change.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Qualified Solicitor or Barrister (England & Wales), ideally c.3+ years’ governance experience.
- Strong local government governance background, in-house or private practice.
- Excellent drafting, analysis and communication skills; confident advising at pace.
- Able to manage competing deadlines and work independently and collaboratively.
- Proactive, solutions-focused approach and genuine interest in public sector clients.
