Our Legal 500 and Chambers-rated Public Procurement team is expanding, and we are looking for a Public Procurement Disputes Associate to join us in our newly refurbished Birmingham office. This is a fantastic opportunity for an Associate with 3+ years PQE to provide expertise and client support on a wide variety of public procurement disputes across multiple sectors, including health and social care, housing, local government, and charity clients. The team is integral to the wider Projects Department, offering a supportive and collegiate environment where you’ll have the opportunity to work with both long-term and new clients. This role offers excellent growth prospects, flexibility, and the chance to make a real impact within a dynamic and forward-thinking team. Key Responsibilities: Provide expert advice on procurement disputes, focusing on issues across sectors such as health and social care, housing, local government, and charity. Progress litigation matters in compliance with the Civil Procedure Rules, with ongoing consideration of merits and opportunities for settlement. Handle a wide range of dispute instructions, both short-term and long-term, with opportunities to work on new and ongoing client matters. Work collaboratively with the wider Projects Department to deliver joined-up legal services. Support clients with training and general advisory work, particularly related to the Procurement Act 2023. Assist in supervising and mentoring junior lawyers within the team. Contribute to the continued growth and development of the team, working on both contentious and non-contentious matters. If desired, support with business development activities to support ongoing growth and profile of the team and disputes work undertaken. About the Candidate We are looking for a candidate with solid experience in public procurement dispute work and a genuine interest in working within our specialist sectors. The ideal applicant will have a proven track record of managing procurement disputes from initial advisory stages through to settlement or judgment. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow and develop within a supportive and collaborative team. They will also enjoy taking on responsibility and mentoring junior team members while developing their own career within a growing and dynamic practice. There is the opportunity to undertake some non-contentious work if desired and as required. Experience and Skills: 3+ years PQE with experience in procurement dispute work (desirable). Experience of advising on disputes and progressing litigation under the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 and have a good grasp of the Procurement Act 2023. Experience of advising clients under the Provider Selection Regime is desirable but not essential. A good understanding of the full lifecycle of procurement disputes, from initial advice through to resolution. Experience working with clients across sectors such as health and social care, housing, local government, and charities. Ability to work both independently with support as appropriate from more senior colleagues and as part of a team on larger, more complex matters. Strong communication skills, particularly the ability to explain complex legal issues to non-legal professionals. An interest in providing training and support to clients, especially in relation to the Procurement Act 2023. Desire to help manage and supervise junior lawyers within the team.
