Hybrid, requiring 2-3 days per week at Warwickshire HQ. A well-funded, dynamic agricultural technology start-up is pioneering a novel, sustainable solution for crop cultivation. The company's core mission is to transform weed control by replacing chemical herbicides with a physical method. The company seeks a talented and knowledgeable Mechanical Design Engineer to join its team, working closely with the Lead Engineer.
Core Responsibilities
- Design & Development: The Engineer will contribute to the development of agricultural machines, including parts, enclosures, hydraulic mechanisms, and electro-mechanical systems.
- Performance & Reliability: The role focuses on improving the performance and reliability of the existing machine fleet operating across the UK and Europe.
- Cost Reduction: The Engineer will critically attack the cost of existing machinery and contribute to the ground-up design of a new, lighter, more efficient machine (Value Engineering).
- Hands-on Work: The role involves hands-on build, development testing, and ad-hoc travel to customer sites for diagnostic/troubleshooting work.
Candidates should have 4–5 years or more of relevant experience. Direct experience in the development and design of agricultural machinery is a bonus; however, experience in other heavy industries (e.g., construction, forestry) could also be deemed relevant. Proven experience in Design for Cost/Value Engineering. Competence with a major CAD package (Autodesk Inventor beneficial). Experience with production systems (e.g., engineering change control). Awareness of the Machinery Directive and risk assessment. The successful candidate must be able to work under pressure in a flexible, dynamic, start-up environment.
