TECHNICAL SALES LEAD

Eco Nomad Solutions. Simple, affordable, effective is what we build.

Location

Field-based, UK.

It would also be beneficial to attend our Rothamsted Research HQ (Harpenden) with a degree of regularity; however, we are open to flexibility on this and encourage those from further afield to get in touch.

WHO WE ARE

Eco Nomad Solutions is an award-winning agritech company based at Rothamsted Research.

Our flagship product, Bio Nomad®, is a patented modular waste-to-energy system built for small livestock farms, micro-dairies and animal sanctuaries — and for climates where most micro-AD doesn’t perform.

The outcomes for customers are tangible savings on energy and fertiliser costs.

We have systems running across the UK and Africa, as well as potential leads into Europe. We've just closed our second equity round, this is combined with extensive grant funding.

THE ROLE

The role will encompass the full sales life-cycle; from finding farms and networking via in person and online meetings and industry events, through to technical input (such as drawings and layout sketches) and proposal building... and ultimately closing sales.

While first and foremost a sales role, the role will also encompass technical elements.

Duties will range from lead generation and farm visits, to sketching site layouts and preparing proposals.

Over time, the plan is that you build and lead a network of regional salespeople and distributors.

  • WHAT WE NEED
  • At least 2 years' relevant Sales experience.
  • A self-generated sales track record – from lead generation and first approach, to closing.
  • Patience for long, consultative, capital-equipment sales cycles
  • Technically minded: drawings, site surveys, proficient in Excel, navigating a CRM
  • Strong written English and oral communication skills — you'll be rapport building with farmers as well as writing the proposals
  • A full, clean UK driving licence and real experience of covering miles
  • Based within a day trip of our Rothamsted HQ in Harpenden, Hertfordshire
  • Unrestricted right to work in the UK

You’ll also need to be at home in a small company; often working to your own initiative, with flexibility and versatility, and with a team-player ethos (sometimes taking on other roles and responsibilities when the need arises).

You persist without pestering, with the intuition to know when to chase a farmer and when to give them space.

(HOW TECHNICAL IS TECHNICAL?

An engineering or technical background would be beneficial but not essential; you don't need to be a fully fledged engineer, but you do need to be comfortable answering a farmer's questions without the need to always consult with the technical team.

They ask how many kilowatts, how much gas, where the pipe goes, what happens as the seasons change.

  • We'll train you on the technology.)
  • NICE TO HAVE
  • A farming background (if you've worked on a farm, or grew up near one, that counts for a lot).
  • Selling equipment or machinery into farms.
  • A technical qualification of any discipline.
  • CAD and drawing/surveying skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • A bit of marketing and social media savviness.
  • Other languages — there's very nearly a continent each in our team.
  • TRAVEL

Once or twice a week on the road on average, ~ 20–40% of your time.

Some weeks none at all.

Others, three days round one region.

The odd UK flight.

Overseas travel is rare but possible.

Ideally you’d be within a feasible distance to get to our HQ in Harpenden 1-2 times per week (we’re on a beautiful campus with perks such as gym access and a subsidised cafeteria)… but we’d still love to speak to suitable people who are based further afield and may need more flexibility.
