As a senior technical specialist, you will combine sustainability expertise with advanced analytical capabilities to manage, analyse, and interpret large and complex datasets.

You will develop robust methodologies, perform complex calculations, oversee data quality and assurance processes, and support clients in understanding the story behind their data.

A significant proportion of the role will focus on regulatory compliance requirements, including Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), and other sustainability reporting obligations.

Working closely with clients and project teams, you will ensure analytical outputs are accurate, auditable, and defensible while communicating complex findings in a clear, concise, and actionable manner.

You will also play a key role in mentoring team members, setting technical standards, and building capability across the wider team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the analysis of large, complex sustainability datasets, delivering robust, high-quality outputs that support client decision‑making and regulatory compliance.
  • Design and execute complex calculations, methodologies, and analytical approaches tailored to specific client needs, using tools such as Alteryx, Excel, Power Query, Power BI, and other analytical platforms.
  • Manage data collection, cleansing, validation, transformation, and interpretation processes to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability.
  • Develop and maintain transparent methodologies, assumptions, calculation logic, and audit trails that support accurate reporting and regulatory submissions.
  • Identify data gaps, inconsistencies, and quality issues, implementing practical solutions and clearly documenting assumptions where data limitations exist.
  • Support clients with compliance and reporting requirements related to EPR, PPWR, and other sustainability regulations, ensuring analytical outputs are robust, traceable, and defensible.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, translating complex analytical outputs into clear and compelling insights that inform strategic decisions.
  • Produce high‑quality reports, presentations, dashboards, and visualisations that communicate the key messages behind the data to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Provide technical leadership across projects, overseeing the work of more junior members of the team to ensure consistency, accuracy, and quality.
  • Establish and maintain analytical standards, methodologies, quality assurance procedures, and best practices across the team.
  • Mentor and train colleagues, contributing to capability building and continuous improvement in sustainability data analysis and reporting.
  • Support business development activities through technical input into proposals, client discussions, and the evolution of Anthesis' sustainability data and analytics services.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Information Systems, or a related discipline.

Master's degree desirable.

  • Senior Consultant: typically 5-8 years of relevant experience.
  • Principal Consultant: typically 8-12+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience working with sustainability data, ideally including packaging, product, material composition, waste, recycling, circular economy, resource management, or regulatory reporting datasets.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret large, complex datasets and apply advanced analytical techniques to solve client challenges.
  • Significant experience using Excel, Alteryx, Power Query, and similar tools to perform complex calculations, data transformation, validation, quality checks, and reporting.
  • Experience developing robust methodologies, assumptions, and analytical frameworks that ensure accuracy, consistency, and auditability.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality management, and analytical quality assurance practices.
  • Experience supporting clients with sustainability reporting and regulatory compliance requirements, particularly EPR, PPWR, or related sustainability regulations.
  • Ability to evaluate data quality, identify gaps and limitations, and develop pragmatic approaches for dealing with incomplete or imperfect datasets while maintaining technical rigour and transparency.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex technical analysis into concise, engaging, and actionable insights for clients.
  • Proven experience managing projects, leading technical workstreams, and delivering high‑quality outputs within commercial timelines.
  • Experience mentoring, training, and overseeing junior team members, including reviewing work, setting standards, and driving technical excellence across teams.
