Veterinary Laboratory Assistant – Specimen Reception

Night Shift (8 hour shifts)

Leamington Spa

£25,000 – £28,000

Antech Diagnostics are looking for a Veterinary Lab Assistant to join our state-of-the-art veterinary diagnostics laboratory based in the Leamington Spa area.

This role will be based in the Specimen Reception department and the VLA will accession, receive, and prepare samples for laboratory analysis.

This is a full-time position, working night shifts across Monday – Friday.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Accurately process specimen requisitions following department protocols.
  • Remove specimens from transport bags, enter patient, client and specimen data, label specimens and aliquot as needed.
  • Sort specimens for distribution throughout the lab.
  • Ensure Turnaround Times (TATs) are met.
  • Comply with appropriate specimen storage requirements.
  • Maintain inventory of specimens after testing has been completed. Ensure all specimens are accounted for.
  • Retrieve and prepare add-ons and rechecks.
  • Read, understand and follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform all required quality control per QA guidelines.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Proven relevant laboratory experience, ideally within a veterinary or clinical setting.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Organised with the ability to multi-task and prioritise within a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Personal computer skills, strong typing ability, and proficient in Microsoft Office.
