We have an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Specialist to take ownership of our standalone in-house payroll function.
Reporting to the HR Operations Manager, you will manage the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring payroll is accurate, compliant, and delivered on time.
Working closely with HR, Finance, and our payroll provider, you will act as the primary point of contact for payroll related queries, providing support and guidance to employees and stakeholders while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and company policies.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, validate, and submit monthly payroll data to the external payroll provider.
- Act as the main point of contact for the payroll provider, managing queries, timelines, and issue resolution.
- Review and reconcile payroll outputs, ensuring accuracy before sign-off and payment.
- Process employee expenses and ensure compliance with company policy.
- Accurately maintain payroll records, including new starters, leavers, salary changes, bonuses, allowances, and absences.
- Support month‑end activities by reconciling payroll reports and assisting with payroll journals.
- Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, National Insurance, pensions, statutory payments, and reporting requirements.
- Maintain data integrity across HR and payroll systems.
- Respond to employee payroll queries in a timely and professional manner.
- Support audits, year-end processes, and statutory reporting requirements.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and data quality.

Requirements
- Proven experience in a payroll role, ideally managing end-to-end payroll processes.
- Experience working with third‑party payroll providers.
- Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail, with strong reconciliation and auditing skills.
- Proficient in payroll systems and Microsoft Excel; experience with i Trent is desirable.
- Experience using Excel and Business Objects to produce and analyse payroll reports.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Collaborative approach, with the ability to build effective relationships across HR, Finance, and external partners.
- Professional, discreet, and people focused, with excellent communication skills.
