Our client is a well-established UK-regulated international bank providing corporate, trade finance and cross-border banking services. As part of its continued growth and strategic development, the Bank is seeking to appoint an exceptional Chief Risk Officer (SMF4) to join its Executive Management Team. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the successful candidate will lead the Bank's independent Risk function and provide strategic oversight across all material risk disciplines. The role is responsible for ensuring that the Bank maintains a robust enterprise-wide risk management framework, effective governance arrangements and full compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
This is a highly confidential executive search for an accomplished senior risk executive with significant experience within a UK-regulated banking environment.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Lead the Bank's independent Risk Management function.
- Provide strategic oversight across Credit Risk, Market Risk, Liquidity Risk, Operational Risk, Conduct Risk and Enterprise Risk.
- Develop, implement and continuously enhance the Bank's Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
- Ensure effective operation of the Bank's Risk Appetite Framework.
- Oversee ICAAP, stress testing, capital adequacy and prudential risk governance.
- Lead credit risk governance, including oversight of credit policies, portfolio quality, client ratings, limits and large exposures.
- Review significant credit proposals and provide independent challenge where appropriate.
- Monitor emerging risks and ensure timely escalation and effective mitigation.
- Present comprehensive risk reports and recommendations to Executive Management and Board Committees.
- Ensure effective implementation of the Three Lines of Defence governance model.
- Maintain strong relationships with UK regulatory authorities.
- Lead remediation of regulatory findings, internal audit observations and control issues.
- Provide independent challenge and risk oversight for strategic initiatives, products and major business decisions.
- Promote and embed a strong risk culture across the organisation.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate should possess:
- Minimum of 15 years' experience within Banking or Financial Services.
- Extensive experience in senior Risk Management leadership positions.
- Strong technical expertise across: Credit Risk, Market Risk, Liquidity Risk, Operational Risk, Enterprise Risk, Prudential Risk.
- Significant experience within a UK-regulated banking environment.
- Excellent knowledge of: ICAAP, Stress Testing, Risk Appetite Frameworks, Internal Controls, Corporate Governance, Three Lines of Defence.
- Experience presenting to Executive Committees and Board Risk Committees.
- Experience engaging with UK regulatory authorities, including the PRA and FCA.
- Experience working within international banking groups or cross-border governance structures.
- Demonstrable experience managing regulatory reviews, audit findings and control remediation programmes.
- Degree qualified in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Risk Management, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- Current SMF4 approval or demonstrable capability to perform an SMF4 Chief Risk Officer role within a UK-regulated financial institution.
