A key player in the UK defence sector is expanding its electronic design and manufacturing capabilities and seeks an experienced PCB Technologist to drive high-reliability PCB processes for complex electronic sub-systems. This role offers the chance to shape technologies from concept to full production, central to national defence, while building expertise in a supportive, technical environment.
The role involves supporting the development of advanced PCB design, manufacture, and assembly for harsh-environment applications. Collaborating with technical experts, suppliers, and international teams, you will ensure robust processes for mission-critical electronics, from lab evaluation to production standards.
What you will be doing:
- Supporting development and evaluation of new PCB processes and equipment at national and international levels, including supplier visits.
- Understanding materials and processes for circuit card assembly (CCA) and PCB manufacture to survive harsh defence environments.
- Assessing PCB fabrication and CCA via lab work, supplier collaboration, and manufacturing centres.
- Driving adoption of methodologies and generating documented standards across UK and international teams.
- Participating in failure analysis of CCAs at component and board levels.
What we are looking for:
- Strong understanding of PCB Technologist processes in design, manufacture, and assembly.
- Experience with high-reliability electronics for defence or aerospace, including materials for harsh conditions.
- Hands-on skills in lab assessments, process evaluation, and failure analysis.
- Excellent communication for stakeholder engagement and collaborative working.
- Self-motivation, methodical approach, and flexibility for UK/international travel.
- Awareness of industry standards (e.g., IPC) or defence manufacturing would be advantageous.
What's on offer:
- Competitive salary circa £40,000, plus up to £2,500 company bonus.
- Pension (up to 14% total contribution), paid overtime, and flexi leave (up to 15 extra days).
- Dynamic hybrid working (2-3 days onsite), enhanced parental leave, and site facilities.
- Career growth in a leading defence organisation with unique technical challenges.
- British Citizens or dual UK nationals eligible for BPSS security checks required.
