We are seeking a Senior UX Designer specializing in Artificial Intelligence to join our National Security team. You will lead the design of intuitive, ethical, and transparent AI-powered experiences for UK Government and Defence customers. This role involves bridging the gap between complex machine learning capabilities and user-centric, research-driven design.

Key Responsibilities

  • AI Experience Design: Design intuitive interfaces for AI features, applying Human-Centred AI (HCAI) principles to ensure trust and transparency.
  • End-to-End Leadership: Direct the design process from discovery and user research to interaction design and final delivery.
  • Stakeholder Guidance: Frame AI capabilities and limitations for clients, guiding them toward responsible design choices.
  • Mentorship: Lead and develop junior designers, building the team's capability in research and AI-enabled system design.
  • Accessibility & Ethics: Evaluate products for inclusivity and accessibility while ensuring alignment with ethical AI frameworks.

Requirements

  • UCD Expertise: Proven experience in User-Centred Design (UCD) methodologies and translating research into wireframes and interactive prototypes.
  • AI Specialization: Hands-on experience designing for AI / ML products, including handling complex data-rich platforms.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to bring structure to complex problems and articulate design rationale to senior technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Tooling: Proficiency in Figma and experience working within Agile / Scrum environments.

Preferred Skills

  • Sector Experience: Previous work on UK Government or National Security projects.
  • Technical Literacy: Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML / CSS / JS) or the GOV.UK Prototype Kit.
  • Academic Background: Degree in Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
