Role Overview Job Title: 2nd Line Backup & Storage Engineer Office Location: Stevenage (3 data centre sites) Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week (Shift patterns typically 07:00 15:30 or 10:30 19:00). No mandatory weekend working, though optional overtime may be available. Security Clearance: Minimum security clearance required upon application, with a requirement to meet a higher level upon joining. Core Purpose & Responsibilities As a 2nd Line System Engineer, you will contribute to building a better service by working with new technologies within a collaborative team environment. Your day-to-day duties will include: Incident & Request Management: Investigate, assess, and resolve customer and system issues, including Severity 1 & 2 incidents, while providing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) information within agreed SLAs and KPIs. Storage & Backup Administration: Monitor and manage large-scale NetApp Storage and Cohesity backup environments across three data centre sites, ensuring high availability, performance, and resilience. NAS & SAN Operations: Handle NAS and SAN administration, including VMware integration, fabric switch configuration, zoning, and troubleshooting. Capacity & Asset Management: Perform capacity management, reporting, proactive risk identification, and implement remedial actions. Hardware & Software Lifecycle: Plan and execute storage software/firmware upgrades with minimal service impact, alongside installing and commissioning new storage/backup hardware within target timescales. Documentation & Change Control: Create work processes, document working outcomes, raise and present change requests, and contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives. Compliance: Adhere to all information security policies, change and release procedures, configuration guidelines, and security operating orders. Key Requirements & Transferable Skills Capability to handle Severity 1 & 2 Incidents and provide RCA. Strong understanding of NetApp Storage Engineer practices in enterprise-scale environments. Knowledge of NetApp storage hardware. Solid grasp of general NAS/SAN principles.
