A leading defence technology organisation is seeking an experienced Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Project Engineer to join a highly specialised team working across a diverse range of advanced engineering programmes. You will operate within a unique EMC environment comprised of a state‑of‑the‑art test facility and an embedded consultancy function, supporting complex projects through every phase of the product lifecycle. Expect significant responsibility, technical challenge and the chance to directly influence the development of mission‑critical systems.

In this role, you will support major engineering programmes from concept through to qualification and disposal, developing and delivering EMC strategies that ensure robust system performance. You will produce essential project documentation including Environmental Requirement Specifications (ERS), EMC Control Plans, Proving Plans and Proving Instructions. The role also involves reviewing hardware, engaging in informal testing, and ensuring that correct EMC practices and design principles are implemented across multiple development teams. As part of a collaborative and technically skilled group, you will play a key role in driving risk reduction, shaping qualification approaches, and ensuring compliance with relevant EMC standards throughout product development.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Higher education or relevant experience in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, EMC or similar
  • Strong understanding of EMC principles and good design practice
  • Ability to meet defined deadlines and work within agreed budgets
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability
  • Professional, adaptable and able to respond to changing project needs
  • Knowledge of applying military or aerospace EMC standards (e.g. Def Stan 59‑41/ 59‑411, AECTP500, MIL‑STD‑461, RTCA DO160 / EUROCAE ED‑14)
  • Prior experience supporting EMC activities within complex engineering programmes

  • Salary: Up to £55,000 depending on experience
