Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior AWS DevOps Engineer to join our rapidly growing digital transformation team. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain secure, scalable, and resilient cloud infrastructure for critical public sector and defense projects. Because you will be working on highly sensitive systems, active UK Security Clearance (SC Cleared) is an absolute prerequisite for this position. You will bridge the gap between development and operations, championing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation at every stage of the lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cloud Infrastructure: Design, deploy, and manage robust, secure, and scalable AWS cloud environments.
  • CI/CD Pipeline Automation: Build, maintain, and optimize continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to ensure seamless, automated software delivery.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Treat infrastructure as software by authoring and maintaining high-quality Terraform or CloudFormation scripts.
  • Security & Compliance: Implement and enforce rigorous security controls, monitoring, and compliance measures in alignment with public sector security standards.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with software developers, systems architects, and security teams to optimize system performance and reliability.
  • Monitoring & Incident Response: Set up and manage proactive monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure high availability and rapid incident resolution.

Technical Requirements & Skills

Essential:

  • Security Clearance: Must hold an active, verifiable UK SC Clearance.
  • AWS Expertise: Deep, hands-on experience with core AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, ECS/EKS, Lambda, Route 53).
  • Infrastructure as Code: Strong proficiency with Terraform (preferred) or AWS CloudFormation.
  • CI/CD Tools: Extensive experience with automation servers and pipelines such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
  • Containerization: Solid understanding of Docker and container orchestration platform workflows (Kubernetes/EKS).
  • Scripting: Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, Bash, or PowerShell) for automation tasks.
  • Linux Administration: Strong foundational knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems.

Desirable:

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional, AWS Certified Solutions Architect).
  • Experience working within agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban).
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices (integrating security scanning tools like SonarQube, Aqua Security, or Snyk into pipelines).
  • Experience working on UK Government (GDS) or defense-sector frameworks.

Soft Skills & Attributes

  • Problem Solver: Exceptional troubleshooting skills with a knack for identifying root causes in complex cloud environments.
  • Communicator: Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders clearly.
  • Team Player: A collaborative mindset with a passion for mentoring junior engineers and sharing knowledge.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
  • Opportunities to work on high-profile projects of national importance.
  • Dedicated budget for continuous learning, training, and AWS certifications.
  • Flexible hybrid working models.
