A new opportunity has just landed for an experienced Lead Infrastructure Automation Engineer to drive a major infrastructure modernisation and automation programme. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on transforming a largely manual infrastructure environment into a scalable, automated Infrastructure-as-Code platform. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to define the automation strategy, establish standards and tooling, and lead greenfield automation initiatives from concept through to delivery.
Location: London - 3 days per week on-site
Rate: £600-£625 per day
Contract: Inside IR35
Duration: 6 months initial contract with potential extension
Start: ASAP
Key requirements:
- Strong hands-on experience with Terraform and Ansible
- Proven experience delivering Infrastructure-as-Code solutions at enterprise scale
- Experience building automation frameworks and capabilities from the ground up
- Strong background automating infrastructure provisioning, configuration management and operational processes
- Experience automating activities such as server builds, software installation, configuration, patching and infrastructure lifecycle management
- Strong Linux and VMware experience
- Deep understanding of enterprise server infrastructure and network architecture
- Experience designing self-service or automated infrastructure provisioning workflows
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift
- Experience designing infrastructure with future cloud adoption and hybrid cloud environments in mind
- Exposure to Azure and/or GCP
- Strong understanding of Git, CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Experience integrating infrastructure automation into wider engineering and delivery workflows
This role requires someone who can operate as a genuine technical lead. We are looking for an individual who can take ownership, challenge existing manual processes, define the future-state automation strategy and drive change with minimal supervision. You will also work closely with Infrastructure, Operations and Engineering teams across multiple regions, providing technical direction and helping establish the foundations for a future infrastructure automation capability.
Desirable experience includes:
- Banking or Financial Services experience
- Experience working within highly regulated enterprise environments
- Understanding of operational resilience and infrastructure controls
- Experience with DORA or similar regulatory requirements
- Experience building self-service infrastructure platforms or Internal Developer Platforms
- Previous experience leading large-scale infrastructure transformation or modernisation programmes
