Senior Backend Engineer £70,000 - £80,000 GBP Hybrid WORKING Location: Holborn , Central London, Greater London - United Kingdom Type: Permanent We're looking for a Backend Engineer to help design, build and scale modern backend services that power a market-leading digital platform. You'll join a collaborative engineering team where you'll work alongside Product, Design and Commercial teams to build high-performance applications using modern technologies. This is an opportunity to influence technical direction, contribute to architectural decisions and mentor other engineers while working on exciting, large-scale systems.
What You'll Be Doing
Design, build and maintain scalable, high-performance backend services using Python Translate business requirements into robust technical solutions and architecture Develop APIs and microservices that are reliable, secure and easy to maintain Collaborate closely with Product, Design and Engineering teams to deliver new features Take part in code reviews, pair programming and technical discussions Identify opportunities to improve development practices, tooling and Agile processes Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across the team Contribute ideas around new technologies, frameworks and engineering best practice Tech Stack Python Django FastAPI AWS PostgreSQL Kafka Elasticsearch Redis Kubernetes GitHub What We're Looking For Strong commercial experience developing backend applications with Python Experience building scalable APIs and distributed systems Good understanding of object-oriented design, SOLID principles and software architecture Strong knowledge of relational databases and data modelling Experience working with cloud platforms, ideally AWS Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for clean, maintainable code Strong communication skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams Experience mentoring or supporting other developers is desirable If you think you're a good fit, or know somebody that would be well suited for this role we would love to hear from you!
