The Opportunity

A market-leading AI consultancy is looking to hire a

Principal Machine Learning Engineer to join its rapidly growing AI Engineering practice.

This is an opportunity to work on some of the most technically challenging AI programmes in the UK, delivering production-grade machine learning solutions for organisations across National Security, Government and highly regulated industries.

You'll combine deep technical expertise with architectural leadership, helping clients move machine learning from proof of concept into scalable, secure production environments while mentoring engineering teams and shaping engineering best practices.

The Role

As a Principal Machine Learning Engineer, you'll lead the design, architecture and delivery of enterprise-scale machine learning systems, working alongside Data Scientists, Software Engineers and client stakeholders to build AI solutions that solve real-world problems.

You'll remain hands-on while providing technical leadership across multiple projects, defining engineering standards and influencing the future direction of AI delivery within the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of production-grade Machine Learning solutions.
  • Architect scalable ML platforms, infrastructure and deployment pipelines.
  • Build reusable frameworks and engineering accelerators to improve delivery quality and speed.
  • Lead technical discovery, solution design and architecture for complex AI programmes.
  • Work closely with Data Scientists and Software Engineers to operationalise machine learning models.
  • Define best practices for ML Engineering, MLOps and software engineering.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to senior client stakeholders.
  • Mentor and develop Machine Learning Engineers across multiple delivery teams.

Skills & Experience

  • You'll have a proven track record of taking machine learning solutions from experimentation into production, designing scalable architectures and building enterprise-grade ML platforms.
  • Experience leading technical teams, making architectural decisions and working directly with senior stakeholders is highly desirable.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building secure, scalable cloud-native applications are essential.
