Our Client

Join a high-growth technology organisation based in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne, where expert development teams build mission-critical systems for financial markets. Our client has been recognised by The Sunday Times as one of the UK's Best Places to Work, reflecting a culture built on technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.

As a Calypso Developer, you will play a key role in delivering complex, high-quality solutions that directly impact financial operations. This position is ideal for someone who thrives on solving challenging problems, enjoys working at pace, and wants ownership over end-to-end delivery.

The Role

As a Calypso Developer, you will be responsible for developing, enhancing, and supporting critical financial systems. You'll collaborate with business users and technical teams to ensure solutions are reliable, performant, and meet demanding SLAs. This role offers genuine responsibility, combining development and support in a dynamic environment.

  • Deliver industry-leading solutions to the highest design, testing, and operational standards.
  • Work directly with business users to identify enhancements and process improvements.
  • Challenge the status quo in design, process, and delivery through brainstorming and collaboration.
  • Collaborate closely with other technology teams across the business.
  • Split your time between development (approximately 80%) and support (20%), including user engagement.
  • Apply sound judgement to understand business needs and translate them into actionable technical solutions.

What We're Looking For

To succeed as a Calypso Developer, you'll combine strong technical skills with excellent communication and problem-solving ability. Key requirements include:

  • Proven experience working as a Calypso Developer or in a similar development role.
  • Strong programming experience in Java (8 or above, ideally 17 or above).
  • Ability to own all aspects of development projects, from requirements gathering to development, testing, and release.
  • Interest in financial instruments and understanding of Calypso functionality.
  • Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • A minimum 2:1 degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated professional and academic excellence.

Desirable Experience

It would be beneficial if you also have experience with:

  • Portfolio management systems such as Calypso, Murex, Orchestrade, or Front Arena.
  • Front- and middle-office experience at a bank, asset management firm, or hedge fund.
  • Understanding of financial products such as rates, FX, equities, commodities, or credit from a middle-office perspective.
  • Direct experience working with business users.

Why Join?

This opportunity offers:

  • The ability to make an immediate impact on critical financial systems.
  • Ownership of complex technical products and projects.
  • Exposure to work closely correlated with global markets and financial trends.
  • Opportunities to learn from highly experienced developers and industry specialists.
  • A culture that values curiosity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • The chance to work for an organisation consistently recognised as one of the UK's Best Places to Work.
