We're hiring a Lead AI Engineer to join a growing technology team delivering enterprise-scale AI solutions across modern cloud platforms. This is a hands-on engineering role with leadership responsibility, focused on building and scaling AI-powered products and services using Generative AI, Agentic AI, and modern AI engineering practices. You'll work closely with engineering, platform, data, and product teams to design, develop, and deploy production-grade AI capabilities within a fast-paced delivery environment. This is primarily an internal-facing engineering role, so strong technical capability and collaboration skills are more important than consulting or client-facing experience.
The role:
- Design and build scalable AI and GenAI solutions within Azure cloud environments
- Develop intelligent workflows and agentic AI capabilities using modern orchestration frameworks
- Build and maintain AI services, APIs, and backend integrations
- Work closely with Data Engineers, Platform Engineers, Architects, and Product teams to deliver AI solutions into production
- Lead technical delivery across AI engineering initiatives
- Mentor and support junior engineers within the team
- Contribute to engineering standards, reusable patterns, and AI best practices
- Help shape scalable MLOps and AI deployment approaches
- Drive high-quality engineering practices across testing, deployment, monitoring, and optimisation
Tech environment:
- Key technologies include: Python, Azure, Databricks, Generative AI / LLM frameworks, Agentic AI tooling and orchestration frameworks, LangChain / LangGraph, PyTorch and ML libraries, REST APIs, Docker and containerisation, CI/CD pipelines, Git-based development workflows
What we're looking for:
- 4-6 years' experience within Software Engineering, AI Engineering, or Machine Learning Engineering roles
- Strong hands-on Python engineering capability
- Experience building AI or machine learning solutions within production environments
- Strong understanding of Generative AI and modern AI engineering practices
- Exposure to Agentic AI frameworks or autonomous AI workflows
- Experience working with Azure and Databricks
- Good understanding of backend engineering and API development
- Experience collaborating across cross-functional engineering and product teams
- Ability to mentor or support junior engineers
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Package:
- Salary up to £75,000
- Annual bonus
- Full car allowance
- Hybrid working model
- Strong investment in AI engineering capability and tooling
- Opportunity to work on cutting-edge GenAI and Agentic AI initiatives
- Clear progression opportunities within a growing AI engineering function
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to build real-world AI systems at scale while working within a collaborative and technically strong engineering environment.
