An experienced Data Engineer is required to support a major data transformation and cloud modernisation programme within a leading financial services organisation. This is a hands-on delivery role focused on designing scalable data pipelines, migrating legacy data assets and developing enterprise-grade data solutions using Databricks, Python, SQL and Oracle. The successful contractor will work closely with architects, analysts and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into reliable technical solutions.

What you need:

  • Strong commercial experience as a hands-on Data Engineer
  • Practical expertise in Databricks
  • Advanced SQL and strong Python development skills
  • Extensive experience working with Oracle databases
  • Proven experience designing and optimising ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Experience integrating data from multiple enterprise systems
  • Knowledge of cloud-based data platforms and data migration
  • Strong understanding of data modelling, performance optimisation and data quality
  • Experience working across the full software development lifecycle
  • Ability to troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable fixes
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to operate independently
  • Banking, financial services or another regulated-industry background would be advantageous
  • Exposure to Azure data services, CI/CD, data governance or lineage would be beneficial
