Product Manager – Government Department
£500–£550 per day (Inside IR35)

Remote‑first (occasional on‑site travel as required)
A major UK Government Department is seeking an experienced Product Manager to lead a high‑profile discovery phase, shaping the direction of a critical digital service. You’ll work across multidisciplinary teams to define scope, understand user needs, and translate insights into a clear, prioritised product direction.
What you’ll be doing
- Leading discovery activities to define the problem space, product vision and early roadmap.
- Working closely with User Researchers, Service Designers, BAs and Technical Leads to shape hypotheses and validate assumptions.
- Partnering with senior stakeholders to align priorities, manage risks and ensure decisions are evidence‑based.
- Translating discovery outputs into a structured backlog ready for alpha.
- Ensuring alignment with GDS standards and user‑centred design principles throughout.
What we’re looking for
- Strong experience as a Product Manager within government or similarly complex environments.
- Proven track record leading discovery phases and shaping MVP‑ready backlogs.
- Confident working with multidisciplinary teams and navigating senior stakeholder landscapes.
- Ability to balance user needs, policy constraints and technical feasibility.
