The Opportunity: A Tier One Defence Prime seeks an exceptional Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Engineer. You’ll be embedded in a highly classified R&D environment, leading the design and deployment of next-gen Software Defined Radio (SDR) and DSP algorithms for covert payloads and intelligence-gathering platforms which help protect the UK's National Security.

The Role:

  • Reverse Engineering: Deconstruct RF systems (hardware/software/signals) to identify exploitable vectors and redesign opportunities.
  • DSP Algorithm Development: Build and optimise signal processing algorithms for detection, classification, and exploitation.
  • SDR Design: Architect SDR solutions for high-stakes communications and intelligence missions.
  • Payload Engineering: Create mission-critical comms payloads compatible with existing and future platforms.
  • Testing & Validation: Lead lab/field testing loops with multidisciplinary teams to ensure real-world performance.
  • Systems Integration: Fuse your DSP work into broader mission systems alongside hardware/software experts.

Key Requirements:

  • UK National with current UKIC Developed Vetting (DV) and willingness to obtain enhanced DV.
  • Deep DSP expertise – algorithm design, optimisation, and practical deployment.
  • Experienced in reverse engineering RF systems (signals, protocols, hardware).
  • Mastery of SDR platforms – GnuRadio or equivalent.
  • Solid Python, C/C++ skills for embedded or real-time environments.
  • Background in digital comms: modulation, demodulation, protocol decoding.
  • Strong FPGA/SoC experience (VHDL or Verilog preferred).
  • Comfortable in Linux-based dev environments with GitLab and CI pipelines.
  • Proven track record in R&D, especially in defence/intelligence contexts.

  • Base Salary: Up to £85,000
  • Bonus: Up to 10% based on individual performance
