The Role – Data Scientist Specialist
The Data Scientist Specialist position is a hands-on, delivery-focused role within a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, data engineers, and MLOps specialists. As a Data Scientist Specialist, you will take technical ownership of machine learning and GenAI solutions, contributing to both solution design and practical implementation.
The Data Scientist Specialist will act as a technical authority within project teams, leading day-to-day delivery, guiding junior team members, and ensuring high-quality outcomes. This role is well suited to experienced Data Scientist Specialists who enjoy working close to emerging technology while delivering production-ready solutions.
This Data Scientist Specialist role is based in Bristol, with flexibility required to support client delivery.
What You\’ll Be Doing as a Data Scientist Specialist
As a Data Scientist Specialist, you will:
- Work at the forefront of GenAI, machine learning, and advanced analytics
- Design, build, and deploy LLMs and ML models in cloud and high-performance computing environments
- Lead day-to-day technical delivery on projects, supporting and guiding small teams
- Act as the go-to expert for machine learning, MLOps, and large language models
- Contribute to solution architecture, delivery standards, and technical best practice
- Engage actively in continuous improvement, innovation, and knowledge sharing
- Support the performance management and development of junior team members
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deploy secure, scalable ML and GenAI solutions
- Apply robust software engineering practices to data science delivery
- Build reproducible ML pipelines using modern MLOps practices
- Ensure solutions align with data governance and security best practices
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex requirements into working solutions
- Support operational readiness of deployed models and platforms
- Contribute to technical leadership across data science delivery
Key Requirements
The successful Data Scientist Specialist will bring strong technical capability combined with consultancy-grade communication and delivery skills.
You will have:
- Proven experience as a Data Scientist Specialist, Data Scientist, or similar role
- Active SC clearance held at the point of application
- Strong programming skills in Python
- Understanding of one or more of the following:
- Agentic AI systems and architectures
- Graph RAG or Traditional RAG
- Vision Language Models or Computer Vision
- Audio or signal processing
- Experience with Docker, Linux/Unix CLI, Git, and testing frameworks
- Experience with a major cloud platform such as AWS or Azure
- Knowledge of data governance, security, and secure-by-design principles
Desirable Experience
- Familiarity with GPUs in cloud environments
- Experience monitoring ML models and data pipelines in production
- Experience building and consuming APIs
- Experience with modern CI/CD pipelines
- Knowledge of DevOps and data engineering best practice
