Contract: 6 months initially, with potential extension

Location: London - 3 days onsite

Start: ASAP

We're currently supporting a major organisation within the financial services sector that is going through a significant data transformation and cloud modernisation programme. They are looking for experienced Data Engineers to join the team and play a hands-on role in designing, developing and maintaining scalable data solutions.

This is a delivery-focused engineering position, suited to someone who enjoys getting hands-on with data platforms and building robust solutions rather than a purely architectural or management-focused role.

The Role

You'll be responsible for developing and optimising data pipelines, supporting the migration of Legacy data platforms into modern cloud-based environments, and integrating data across complex enterprise systems.

You'll work closely with technical and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into reliable, scalable data solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build and optimise scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines
  • Develop data solutions using Databricks, Python and SQL
  • Support the migration of data assets from Legacy platforms into modern cloud architectures
  • Integrate data from multiple enterprise systems, including Oracle
  • Develop reusable data engineering frameworks and best practices
  • Ensure data quality, security, integrity and performance
  • Troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable solutions
  • Work closely with architects, analysts, business stakeholders and delivery teams
  • Produce clear technical documentation and contribute to knowledge sharing
  • Support the continued development and improvement of the wider enterprise data platform

Key Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience as a Data Engineer within large enterprise environments
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks
  • Advanced SQL
  • Extensive experience working with Oracle databases
  • Proven experience building and supporting data pipelines and integration solutions
  • Experience working with cloud-based data platforms
  • Strong understanding of data modelling, performance optimisation and data quality
  • Experience across the full software development lifecycle
  • Comfortable working independently and delivering with minimal supervision
  • Previous banking or financial services experience
  • Experience working within regulated environments
  • Exposure to Azure Data Platform services
  • Knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps practices
  • Experience supporting cloud migration or modernisation programmes
  • Understanding of data governance and data lineage

If you're a hands-on Data Engineer with strong Databricks, Python, SQL and Oracle experience and are looking for your next contract opportunity, we'd be keen to hear from you.
