A leading UK-based provider of advanced satellite communications and space solutions is seeking a Senior Satellite Communications Systems Engineer to support the design, development, and delivery of critical space-enabled systems.

Operating across defence, government, and commercial domains, this organisation plays a pivotal role in enabling secure global communications, navigation, and data services from space.

Embedded in a highly skilled engineering team, you will work across the full system lifecycle from concept and architecture through to integration and operational deployment. The role offers exposure to cutting-edge satellite technology and a variety of technical challenges across RF, payload, ground segment, and networking systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop advanced SATCOM systems across space and ground segments
  • Lead system-level requirements, architecture design, and interface definition
  • Conduct RF link analysis, bandwidth planning, and coverage modelling
  • Integrate IP networking, cyber security, and system monitoring features
  • Support system integration, test planning, and verification & validation activities
  • Interface directly with clients to shape mission requirements into engineered solutions
  • Contribute to R&D efforts and technical strategy in the communications domain

Key Requirements:

  • 5-10 years experience in SATCOM or space systems engineering
  • Strong background in systems engineering (requirements, design, VV&T)
  • Understanding of satellite system design, ground infrastructure, and payload engineering
  • Familiarity with IP networking, data protocols, and secure comms environments
  • Degree in Space Systems, Electronics, Communications, or related field
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Desirable:

  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it)
  • Experience in ground/satellite system commissioning and test
  • Knowledge of OSS/BSS, network management, or secure architectures
  • Software development exposure (Python, Java) and Agile/DevOps methodologies
  • Familiarity with emerging tech such as optical communications, 5G, or quantum systems
