Locations: London, Bristol, Manchester or Birmingham
Level: Associate Manager
Salary: Competitive, based on experience
Security: DV clearance required
We’re working with a major technology and consulting organisation to recruit Java Software Engineers for high-profile digital transformation programmes across government and commercial environments.
This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll design, build and test critical services, working within Agile teams alongside other developers, architects and technical specialists.
The role
You’ll be responsible for:
- Developing and delivering high-quality Java-based solutions.
- Writing clean, well-tested code including unit, feature and integration tests.
- Creating and documenting low-level designs for new functionality.
- Working in an Agile/Scrum environment and contributing to sprint rituals.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, designs and defects.
- Supporting performance tuning, profiling and debugging of applications.
- Assisting with the delivery of digital transformation engagements for clients.
What we’re looking for
You’ll have strong, practical experience with Java and associated technologies, with a focus on building robust, maintainable services.
Relevant experience may include:
- Spring Boot and modern Java frameworks.
- Open-source tools, libraries and standards.
- Docker and containerisation.
- Test-driven development, test automation and strong test coverage.
- DevOps tooling and continuous delivery pipelines.
- Understanding of non-functional requirements such as performance, scalability and resilience.
- Experience working in both Agile and more traditional delivery environments.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- A genuine interest in continuously developing your technical skillset and taking ownership in your domain.
This role would suit someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, cares about code quality and wants to work on programmes where engineering discipline and reliability really matter.
Please note: Any offer will be subject to successful BPSS and DV clearance. This typically requires ten years of continuous UK address history, with no periods of 30 consecutive days or more spent outside the UK, and eligibility to hold a British passport without dual nationality at the point of application. The role may also require travel to client and partner sites.
