We are seeking an experienced Lighting Designer who will be responsible for delivering creative, compliant and commercially viable lighting design solutions in line with company standards and company objectives. The role requires direct engagement with customers to interpret project requirements, budgets and programme constraints, ensuring proposed lighting solutions align with technical and commercial expectations. You will be accountable for the production of accurate lighting layouts, calculations, specifications and supporting technical documentation, and for presenting proposals in a clear and professional manner. All design outputs must comply with the relevant UK standards and regulations, including BS, CIBSE and Part L. The role also supports site activities where required and contributes to improvement through maintaining up-to-date knowledge of lighting products, lighting controls and industry developments.
Key Responsibilities:
- DELIVERY
- Responsible for managing multiple lighting design projects, ensuring delivery within agreed deadlines and programme requirements.
- Ensure all design documentation (layouts, calculations, specifications and reports) is accurate, complete and issued in line with company procedures.
- Maintain clear and professional communication with customers throughout the project.
- Ensure timely response to customer technical queries and design amendment requests.
- Contribute to achieving department KPIs relating to lead times, project conversion support and customer satisfaction.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, consistency and service levels within the lighting Design function.
- QUALITY
- Ensure all lighting designs and documentation meet company technical standards and comply with relevant UK regulations (BS, CIBSE, Part L and other applicable standard).
- Maintain a high level of accuracy lighting calculations, layouts, specifications and reports prior to issue.
- Conduct thorough internal checks of all design outputs to minimise errors.
- Ensure product selections are technically appropriate, fully compliant and aligned with approved company ranges.
- Maintain consistency in presentation standards and documentation quality across all issued materials.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve design accuracy, efficiency and standardisation.
- COST
- Develop commercially aware lighting solutions aligned with projects budgets.
- Provide alternative product options where appropriate to improve cost efficiency.
- Work closely with customers to ensure lighting design proposals support pricing strategy.
- Minimise design revisions through accurate interpretation of project briefs and clear customer communication.
- SAFETY
- Ensure all lighting designs incorporate relevant safety requirement and comply with applicable UK regulations and standards.
- Ensure emergency lighting designs are compliant with current legislation.
- PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
- Build and maintain professional working relationships with customers and internal department including, ASM's, SOP, Quotation and Technical.
- Act as a key point of contact for customers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support junior designers, providing guidance on technical standard and presentation quality.

- Good level of general education or relevant qualification in Lighting Design or similar
- Minimum 2 - 5 years' experience in lighting design
- Experience managing projects independently from concept to completion
- Experience working directly with customers
- Experience working within a fast-paced environment, managing a high volume of design projects while meeting strict turnaround times
- Experienced in Relux or Dialux.
- Proficient in CAD
- Highly computer-literate, being fully conversant with MS Excel and Word
- Strong understanding of lighting principles, lighting controls, emergency lighting
- Good understanding of UK lighting standards (BS, CIBSE, Part L)
- Strong presentation and communication skills
- Able to work independently and manage multiple projects
- Confident communicator with customers
- Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills
- Professional and solution-driven approach
- Ability to build positive working relationships internally and externally

- Professional lighting accreditation (LIA)
- Experience within a lighting manufacturer or commercial environment
