We are seeking an experienced Programme Manager to join our UK Project Delivery Team.
This role is based on-site in the Portsmouth area. Applicants must live within commuting distance, have the right to work in the UK, eligible for UK Security Clearance and have a relevant experience)
This is a key leadership role responsible for the coordination and successful delivery of complex maritime and defence programmes across multiple projects and stakeholders.
You will lead programme delivery activity, support project managers and engineering teams, manage customer relationships, and ensure programmes are delivered to schedule, budget, and quality expectations. This role suits someone with strong defence programme management, customer-facing delivery, and cross-functional leadership experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support Project Managers, Project Engineering Managers, and delivery teams.
- Oversee multiple concurrent projects and integrate them into a cohesive programme plan.
- Manage programme schedules, milestones, dependencies, risks, and opportunities.
- Act as the main programme-level contact for UK customers.
- Support bid, quote, and proposal activity with programme management input.
- Monitor budget, cost, and financial performance, including Estimate at Completion (EAC) reporting.
- Track progress against baseline plans and drive recovery actions where needed.
- Support milestone claims and payment processes in line with contractual requirements.
- Conduct and facilitate Gate Reviews and other programme reviews.
- Oversee configuration control and review of key project deliverables.
- Support agile delivery methods, including SCRUM where appropriate.
- Interpret requirements specifications and ensure alignment with system capabilities.
- Produce and review technical proposals, SoW, requirements documents, and verification documentation.
- Support resource planning, capacity planning, and team workload management.
- Report programme status, delivery metrics, and issues to senior stakeholders.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Proven experience managing complex, multi-project defence, maritime, or highly technical programmes.
- Experience working with MOD customers and defence acquisition processes.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage priorities, resolve conflicts, and improve delivery performance.
- Experience with EAC, financial reporting, and programme controls.
- Excellent communication, planning, and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Experience
- Requirements management and systems engineering documentation.
- Working knowledge of naval navigation or bridge systems.
- Experience in agile delivery environments.
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), or SAFe qualification.
- Background in engineering, project management, or a related technical discipline.
