We are looking for an experienced Buyer / Procurement Buyer to join our team.
This role is based on-site in the Portsmouth area. Applicants must live within commuting distance, have the right to work in the UK, eligible for UK Security Clearance and have a relevant experience as a Procurement Buyer.
This role is ideal for someone with strong experience in purchasing, supplier management, negotiation, and procurement administration within an engineering, manufacturing, maritime, or technical environment.
You will be responsible for sourcing goods, materials, components, and services, building strong supplier relationships, supporting contract negotiations, and ensuring purchasing activity supports the operational needs of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Purchase goods, materials, components, and services to achieve cost, quality, and delivery targets.
- Source and evaluate suppliers.
- Negotiate prices, terms, contracts, and delivery schedules.
- Manage supplier relationships and act as a key point of contact.
- Support internal stakeholders with supply issues and procurement requirements.
- Raise purchase orders, order schedules, and procurement documentation.
- Monitor supplier performance across price, quality, and delivery.
- Support supplier reviews and audits with the QHSE team.
- Maintain accurate records in SAP Business One and other ERP systems.
- Investigate and resolve supply issues, including delays, shortages, invoice discrepancies, and quality concerns.
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies, procedures, and relevant regulations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement in procurement processes.
- Provide general business administration support as required.
Essential Experience and Skills
- Recent experience as a Buyer, Procurement Buyer, or in a similar purchasing role.
- Strong experience in an engineering, manufacturing, maritime, or technical environment.
- Proven negotiation skills, including pricing, contract terms, and delivery schedules.
- Solid understanding of UK contract law and procurement regulations.
- Experience working with ERP systems for procurement or stock management.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Able to work independently, manage priorities, and solve problems proactively.
Desirable Experience
- SAP Business One purchasing and stock management experience.
- CIPS Diploma in Procurement & Supply.
- Export / import control experience.
- Experience supporting supplier audits or performance management.
