The Junior Cost Engineer's role is to implement, administer and maintain cost control system, with particular focus on procedures to track project budgets, scope delivery, expenditures and forecasts.
Key activities (not exhaustive):
- Monthly update of actual expenditures, ensuring they are all validated and allocated to the correct projects and WBS codes.
- Hold formal forecast reviews on a monthly basis with PM and key project budget holders, ensuring values and monthly phasing of forecasts are accurate, realistic and within approved budgets.
- Challenge budget holders on variances applying a level of professional approach, in order to understand the underlying causes and implications for the project and the business.
- Production of timely and accurate internal and external reports.
- Managing the budget for the contract variations, assisting the commercial function with the production of quotations.
- Where applicable, produce detailed payment applications for submission to the client.
- Main point of contact for client audits and general queries on forecasts, applications, and reported costs.
- Monthly invoicing, cash forecasting, and explanation for variances.
- Close working with finance to deal with queries for reporting.
Other activities:
- Support Company level reporting and analysis.
- Assist with Value of Work Done assessments on all live outsourced work, with a particular emphasis on major subcontracts.
- Identifying areas of further efficiency in the business processes and driving improvements.
- Supporting colleagues on other projects where needed.
Requirements:
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree qualified.
- Analytical, questioning mind, with the ability to confidently engage in dialogue with people at all levels of the organisation.
- Ability to prioritise, demonstrating first class organisational and time management skills.
- Attention to detail, and ability to master the details accurately with a hands-on approach.
- Strength in problem solving and investigate/resolve queries.
- A friendly and approachable style.
- An upbeat, positive attitude that brings energy to the team.
Helpful, but not essential:
- Knowledge of Excel and Data Analysis.
- Programming experience (VBA, SQL or other common language).
- Ability to produce high quality reports.
- Experience within a project led or contracting business.
- Knowledge of Primavera P6.
- Knowledge of SAP S/4Hana.
- Understanding of commercial and risk management aspects of contracts.
