Purpose of the Job
The Site Engineer will be responsible for supporting all site Engineering and Maintenance requirements. Ensuring efficient production through maintenance of assets, assured technical capabilities and compliance with regulatory and company requirements. Supporting the Projects and Engineering Manager in achieving maximum effectiveness of machinery and equipment, by minimising downtime and supporting the effective operation of the PPM system, whilst striving for continual improvement in processes and procedures. Effective communication is essential for the success of the role, you will need to be able to communicate at all levels both with internal and external stakeholders, building strong working relationships in order to influence and bring people on board.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of expertise in relation to planned and reactive maintenance.
- Complete required documentation and services reports as required.
- Working with the Senior Engineer to implement a strategy that will ensure the Engineering function is effective, cost optimised, well-motivated, flexible and continually adapts to changing circumstances.
- Using work methods and practices that comply with legislative, moral and European directive requirements.
- Ensure input of data on availability of systems to support the Senior Engineer in effectively managing inventory, minimise working capital and control purchasing.
- Ensure compliance to Health & Safety and environment legislation and adapt safe working practices at all times.
- Provide technical advice to problem solving and innovative solutions.
- Order and negotiate the price of materials.
- Work in partnership with the Senior Engineer to ensure that the productive capability of the plant is optimised and improved for the needs of the business.
- Follow the set standards and procedures that are in place that govern all engineering activities on site including in particular; all aspects of new asset realisation, safe working practices and management of contractors.
- Ensure that a culture of safety is promoted, working in partnership with the site Health, Safety and Environmental QA Manager.
Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Demonstrate your multi-skilled engineering expertise through time served experience and qualifications.
- A time served engineer with BTEC Level 3 qualification is essential. HNC or HND qualification in an Engineering discipline – desirable.
- Good knowledge of technical Health & Safety requirements.
- Certificate in general H&S e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH - desirable.
- Previous experience within a similar role and within a food manufacturing environment is desirable.
- Excellent trouble-shooter with the ability to resolve problems effectively, and within a cost-effective manner / within budget.
- Excellent communication skills with demonstrable record of influencing at all levels within an organisation.
- Confident decision maker who understands the commercial implications of decisions.
- Effective team player.
- Proven track record of delivering performance improvements.
- Food safety qualification level 2 and above – essential (training can be provided).
- Knowledge and experience of external audits.
- Fully computer literate and proficient on all Microsoft software and experience using CMMS systems.
- Experience fault finding on PLC/Invertors.
- Ability to read and follow electrical/Pneumatic diagrams.
- Customer focused with a high level of attention to detail with the ability to communicate with data and facts.
- Is flexible and accommodates competing deadlines and demands for work hence ability to prioritise tasks and is able to seek advice and guidance from the Senior Engineer to resolve conflicting requests.
- Ability to achieve agreed targets.
- Create, maintain and enhance positive and open working relationships.
- Open and analytical approach to problem solving.
