The Trustees of the Camel Trust invite applications for a grant of up to a maximum of £3,000 to support outstanding post-doctoral research in social anthropology during the calendar year 2020. The grant is intended for an early career post-doctoral scholar to help prepare for an academic career and make a significant contribution to the discipline through field research, an original academic publication, or a grant application.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must have been formally awarded a PhD in Anthropology from a UK university, conferred after 1st January 2016.
  • The successful candidate should be formally or informally affiliated with a UK university and must provide a short letter of affiliation from a mentor, former supervisor, or Head of Department.
  • Applicants may be based in temporary employment or without formal employment, but may not already hold a permanent faculty position.
  • Nationality is unrestricted.

Grant Scope and Requirements

The grant covers up to £3,000 over the period between late January 2020 and 31st December 2020. The recipient will be expected to submit a one-page report on their research activity and a brief account of fieldwork, or a copy of the completed article or research application by 31st December 2020.

Application Materials

Applications should include: a one-page cover letter; a short CV; a one-page outline of the proposed research activity; a one-page budget; and an article or chapter-length writing sample. Two referees must be named. The application form and writing sample should be emailed to and not exceed 7 pages.

Closing Date

The closing date for applications is 1st November 2019.
